Frank A. Mank, 82, of Edwards Street Court, died Feb. 3, 2010, at Mid Coast Senior Health Care with his family by his side.

Frank was born Dec. 2, 1927, the son of Alton and Myrtel (Boggs) Mank. He grew up in Bath. He left school at a young age to work at Walter Furbish in Wiscasset.

He joined the U.S. Navy during World War II and served on the USS Buckley.

He married Doris Wallace on May 31, 1947, and they raised a family of seven children together.

Frank retired from the Central Maine Railroad after 42 years of service as a bridge operator for the Carlton Bridge. He also did lobstering and mossing in the Westpoint area.

He was a man that loved the outdoors, and an avid hunter. Thanksgiving Day dinner had to wait until hunting was over before the Mank family could celebrate. Frank also enjoyed watching TV and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Frank was predeceased by two sisters, Betty Beals and Christine Gamage; and a son-in-law, Roger Irish.

He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Doris of Bath, two sons, Frank A. Mank Jr. and his wife, Lorna, of Warren and Alton A. Mank and his wife, Christina, of Bath; five daughters, Vilinda Haley and her husband, Wayne, of Florida, Doris Stewart and her husband, Roger, of Brunswick, Diana Irish of West Bath, Vivian Freeman and her husband, Donald “Bucky,” of Bath and Sandra Louese and her husband, Fred, of Lewiston; two brothers, Emery Mank of Massachusetts and Everett Mank of Rockland; two sisters, Shirley Mank of Connecticut and Nancy Beals of Rockland; 26 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren.

Visiting hours will be held Saturday, Feb. 6 from 10 a.m. to noon at the David E. Desmond Funeral Home, 638 High St. in Bath, with funeral services at noon. To share thoughts and condolences with Frank’s family, visit
