Margaret H. Beverage, 59, died Jan. 30, 2010, at Maine Medical Center in Portland after suffering a stroke Sept. 2, 2009.

Born in Portland on May 2, 1950, she was the daughter of James E. and Dora Mitten Hamilton. She grew up on Vinalhaven where she attended local schools.

On Sept. 12, 1966, she married Lawrence R. Beverage Jr. in Waynesburg, Pa. They made their first home in Waynesburg before returning to her husband’s hometown of North Haven, where they have since resided.

For more than 17 years, until her illness, Margaret worked with the Maine State Ferry Service at North Haven, the last several years as supervisor.

She and her husband enjoyed antiquing and kept a rental space at the Rockland Antiques Mall, and also traded antiques on eBay. She was an avid reader, and found great pleasure in flower gardening and bird watching.

She was very dedicated to her family. More than anything she doted on her grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them.

She was a longtime member of North Haven Grange.

Besides her husband, Lawrence, of North Haven, Margaret is survived by two daughters, Stacy Lee Beverage and her partner Candra Perry of Portland and Crystal Dawn Grant and her husband, Justin, of North Haven; a half sister, Jennie Hamilton of Vinalhaven; her six grandchildren, Ruby Hopkins, Mitchell Hopkins, Dillon Ames, Justice Grant, Kaylee Grant and Kyle Grant; four brothers-in-law and their families; her sister-in-law and her family; and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, Feb. 13 at 11 a.m. at North Haven Baptist Church. The Rev. David Macy will officiate. Spring interment will be in Seaview Cemetery.
