Employees of The First recently donated $635.53 to the LifeFlight Foundation of Maine as part of The First’s Casual for a Cause program. First employees in all 14 bank branch locations collected the funds in exchange for the privilege of dressing casually each Friday in November 2009.

“We are very grateful for the generous donation from the employees at The First,” said Tom Judge, executive director of LifeFlight, in a news release. “This kind of grassroots support is an essential ingredient in our fundraising efforts. LifeFlight of Maine serves every corner of the state and every donation we receive helps ensure the service is available wherever it is needed most.”

LifeFlight’s two helicopters, located in Bangor at Eastern Maine Medical Center and Lewiston at Central Maine Medical Center, cover the entire state and offshore islands. The critical care air ambulances are able to transport critically ill or injured patients rapidly from one hospital to another or direct from a scene to trauma centers. Since 1998, Maine’s only such service has safely transported more than 10,000 critically ill and injured patients from nearly all of the state’s communities. LifeFlight is Maine’s only licensed scene response air ambulance and is on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. It is the only ambulance service in the state, ground or air, to be fully accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Services.
