Students in second and third grade at the South School in Rockland have been learning and creating in their classrooms.

In teacher Kim Cowan’s second-grade class the students have been learning about U.S. government and patriotic symbols. They have also read 100 books as part of a Scholastic Book Club program called ClassroomsCare. Peyton and Eli Manning are ambassadors for the program, which donates 1 million books per year to students in need, including students in hospitals, and to children’s libraries.

In Jennifer Woodward’s second-grade class, students have been constructing 3-D pyramids out of straws and bread ties as part of their math learning.

In the third grade, teachers Joel Dempsey and Christine Knutson have been leading their students in putting on a play based on E.B. White’s “Stuart Little.”
