Two people were taken to the hospital Jan. 31 following a car crash that resulted from a driver striking a parked car and then slamming into the rear end of another vehicle.

According to Rockland Police Sgt. Kenneth Smith, a pickup truck driven by Michael Tucker, 19, of South Thomaston was traveling north on Main Street when it struck a parked car near Limerock Street. Tucker was distracted by that crash and rear-ended a van driven by George Lowander, 70, of Rockland.

That impact sent Lowander’s vehicle into a Subaru driven by Jennifer Herbert, 19, of Rockland.

Lowander and a passenger were taken to Penobscot Bay Medical Center inĀ Rockport, complaining of pain. There were no other injuries. All the occupants were wearing seat belts, Smith said.

Damage to the van was estimated at $10,000. Damage to the pickup truck was estimated at $600 and damage to the Subaru was estimated at $100.

The crash occurred at about 1 p.m.
