With snow on the banks and ice on the roads it may seem like a bad time to get out on the Midcoast roads to race. However, there are several upcoming fundraising races in the area that will hopefully see more favorable weather.

Paula Lunt of Tenants Harbor is directing and promoting the three events to be held from Valentine’s Day through May 22.

Although it may still be cold outdoors, the first race is on Sunday, Feb. 14 at the Penobscot Bay YMCA in Rockport. The Love ME 5K Run/Walk will take place at 10 a.m. and supports the Little Field Home orphanage in Malawi, Africa.

That will be followed by the Get Fit 5K Run/Walk on Sunday, April 18 at 11 a.m. That race starts at the St. George Town Office on School Street in Tenants Harbor. The event supports the Maine Chapter of the American Lung Association.

The third event, the St. George River Saltwater Challenge Canoe and Kayak Race, will take place on Saturday, May 22. It starts at 3:30 p.m. and will launch from the Thomaston Town Landing. The race also supports the Maine Chapter of the American Lung Association.
