John M. Jackson, 65, died unexpectedly Jan. 27, 2010, at his home.

Born in Saginaw, Mich., on March 16, 1944, he was the son of Marceline L. Jean Jackson. He attended local schools and was a graduate of Saginaw High School.

John was first employed with General Motors Corporation at its Saginaw Power Train Division. He later moved to Connecticut, where he worked at Pratt & Whitney while attending technical college, ultimately earning an associates degree in HVAC.

Shortly after graduating, he moved to Woburn, Mass., and established Delta Environmental Services in Arlington, Mass.

While attending college, John made several friends who lived in Midcoast Maine. In the early 1980s he gave in to their beckoning to experience the wonderful Maine life and moved here. Upon arriving in the Midcoast, he established ACR Engineering in Rockland, which eventually he merged into a business with his son Jon Paquette called Advanced Heating & Cooling of Rockland.

He later worked a few years in maintenance with the Samoset Resort. The next five years he worked with Thayer Corporation of Auburn and the past five years with AAA Energy of Pittsfield.

On March 15, 2008, he married his companion of 25 years and the “love of his life,” Linda L. Barlow in Rockland.

Only months away from his retirement, John and Linda had their dream trip to Florida planned, in search of a home on a canal where John could fish whenever he wanted. In reference to his weariness of Maine winters and his years of work in HVAC, John recently said to his son Jon, “I want to move so far south that when they hear the words ‘oil burner,’ they’ll ask, ‘What kind of car you driving?'”

John’s family said that not only did he have a great sense of humor, but he was politically outspoken and always told it like it was. They affectionately remembered he was always enthusiastically contemplating the next get rich quick scheme.

He particularly enjoyed cruising, fishing, fishing tournaments, and just spending time with family and friends aboard his boat Cocktails.

Another love of his life was his Shar-Pei, Bella, who has been a family member for 13 years.

John was predeceased by one grandson, Jacob Paquette on July 20, 2009.

Other than his wife, Linda, of Tenants Harbor, John is survived by his sons, Jon Paquette and his wife, Pamela, of South Thomaston, Jamie Paquette and his wife, Sandy, of Posen, Mich., Eric Jackson of Saginaw, Mich., and Ric J. Powell and his wife, Iris Perkins-Powell, of Rockland; one daughter, Nicki S. Powell-Fiske and her husband, Mark Fiske, of Tenants Harbor; one brother, James Jackson and his wife, Barbara, of Saginaw, Mich.; a close friend of many years, Fred Stimpson of Tenants Harbor; as well as several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, Feb. 4 at 2 p.m. at the Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock St. in Rockland. Pastor Douglas Anderson will officiate. A celebration of life will follow the service at the Winslow-Holbrook-Merritt American Legion Post No. 1, 335 Limerock St. in Rockland.
