Employees of the Rockport office of The First recently donated $208.10 to the Camden-Rockport Animal Rescue League. Employees and customers raised the money during The First’s annual Holiday Open House event in December.

First employee representative and teller Holly Gallant visited the animal rescue league at 146 Camden St. in Rockport to make the presentation. On hand to accept the check was shelter manager Laura Stupca.

After an extended closing due to ringworm exposure, the Camden-Rockport Animal Rescue League has been granted permission by state authorities to re-open the shelter to the public.

“People have been anxiously awaiting our re-opening, and we’re thrilled that that day is finally here,” said Executive Director Sarah Shepherd in a news release.

Stupca also said she was happy to get back to work doing what she loves.

“It’s rewarding when one of our shelter animals finds that special home. It brings us joy to connect people with loving animal companions,” Stupca said.

The first official day open for business will be Tuesday, Feb. 2 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The kitten and adolescent rooms remain closed, but the older cats in the other four rooms will be available for visitation and adoption. The dogs, who were unaffected by the ringworm, have been fortunate to have visitors, and some have been adopted during the closure. Adoption hours are from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday; the shelter is closed on Monday.

The Camden-Rockport Animal Rescue League is always seeking volunteers to work at the shelter, and donations of general cleaning supplies, cat food and kitten food are always welcome.

“In order to restore a comfortable environment for our cats, we are specifically looking for scratching posts, towels and cat condos, some of which will be made possible due to The First’s generous donation,” Shepherd said.

Donations may be dropped off 24 hours a day inside the entryway. For more information on the animal rescue league, call 236-8702, e-mail info@crarl.org or visit crarl.org. For more information about The First, call 800-564-3195 or visit the1st.com.
