Medomak Valley High School Principal Harold Wilson has selected senior Kiana Ocean to receive the 2010 Principal’s Award.

Ocean is the daughter of Steve and Kathleen Ocean of Washington. Ocean was chosen for the award for her outstanding school citizenship and academic excellence, the school said.

Ocean has been an active member of the student council for the past three years. She participates in cross-country and indoor and outdoor track. She participated in girls basketball during her freshmen and sophomore years. She also is a member of the National Honor Society, math team and the student mentor group PAWS. Ocean is an active volunteer at the Gibbs Library in Washington. She and another Medomak Valley student have organized and conducted a children’s reading program at the library. Ocean is an excellent student who is well respected by her peers, the school said. She works very hard, always has a positive attitude, and is always willing to volunteer wherever help is needed.

The Principal’s Award, sponsored by the Maine Principals’ Association, is given in recognition of a high school senior’s academic achievement and citizenship.
