Branch across lines cuts power in Rockport

ROCKPORT — A blown transformer is believed to have caused a power outage in West Rockport and Rockport at about 4 p.m. on Jan. 25. Traffic signals at the intersection of Route 17 and Route 90 were disabled, and parts of Warren also lost power in the incident.

Life of an old fire truck

HOPE — An old Hope fire truck, which has been in Appleton, may now have a new life on Matinicus. Several years ago, Hope gave a 1977 F700 Ford tanker truck to Appleton, but retained the right of first refusal when Appleton ended its use of the truck. In November, Appleton residents voted at a special town meeting to sell the truck back to Hope for $1. Fire Chief Clarence Keller proposed selling the truck to a needy community once again and has contacted the Matinicus Fire Department to gauge its interest. The chief of the Matinicus department is interested.
