Aqua Maine is making progress on construction of the membrane filtration plant addition at Mirror Lake in Rockport for the Camden and Rockland Division.

Roof trusses are being added to the building addition that will ultimately house the new state-of-the-art membrane filters, Aqua Maine said. To date, the water supply has relied solely on watershed protection and disinfection, with no final filtering.

Last summer, Aqua Maine began construction of a $7.2 million filtration addition to the Mirror Lake treatment facility to comply with new federal and state drinking water standards. Aqua Maine said the project will improve water quality for residents. The new facility is expected to be online in late summer of 2010, and will require a rate increase expected to be effective at that time.

The Camden and Rockland Division serves 7,700 customers in the communities of Rockland, Rockport, Camden, Thomaston, Owls Head, Union and Warren. It is one of 20 Maine water systems owned or operated by Aqua Maine.
