Gary Alan Savage, 53, of Windsor, Conn., and Wiscasset, died at his home in Wiscasset on Jan. 23, 2010.

Born in Bath on April 9, 1956, he was the son of Lewis E. Savage and Sylvia Kingsbury Savage Fuller. He grew up in Woolwich.

After graduating from Morse High School in 1974 he attended the University of Maine at Machias and the University of Maine at Orono with degrees in education and engineering. He later earned a master’s degree at the University of Connecticut. For two years Gary taught seventh and eighth grades in Winter Harbor. After receiving his engineering degree, he was employed for 27 years at Pratt & Whitney in East Hartford and Middletown, Conn., and then at Hamilton Sunstrand in Windsor Locks. On June 24, 1984, he married Peggy Lee Benner of New Harbor.

His hobbies and related activities included motorcycle trips, boating, kayaking, traveling and ice fishing with his wife, as well as vehicle restoration and hunting with his dad.

Gary is survived by his wife, Peggy; his mother, Sylvia and husband, Dennis Fuller, of Woolwich; his father, Lewis and wife, Katharine Martin-Savage, of Wiscasset; his sisters, Debra Estes and her husband, Stephen, of Lisbon and Kimberly Rager and her husband, Jeffrey, of Wiscasset; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at the New Harbor United Methodist Church on Friday, Jan. 29 at 1 p.m.
