The Friends of the Weskeag will meet Thursday, Jan. 28 at 6:30 p.m. at the Wessaweskeag Historical Society to hear from special guest Stacy Benjamin, Gateway 1 project administrator for the Maine Department of Transportation.

Benjamin will discuss the Gateway 1 Action Plan, which charts future transportation development and land use for the Route 1 corridor. The focus of the meeting will be on Thomaston and Rockland and how the project may effect the Weskeag.

Because this will be an informal discussion with plenty of opportunity to ask questions, meeting organizers recommend that attendees prepare by checking out gateway1.org — of particular interest are the sections on environment and public involvement.

As always, Friends of the Weskeag meetings are open to all with an interest in the Weskeag. Friends of the Weskeag is an informal network of supporters and advocates of all ages dedicated to the conservation of the Wessaweskeag watershed for education, enjoyment, and sustainable uses of the rich ecosystem and its prehistoric and historic heritage.
