Maurice E. Woodard, 98, a resident most recently of Jefferson, died Jan. 17, 2010, at the Country Manor after a long illness.

Maurice was born Dec. 13, 1911, in Hallowell. He was orphaned and raised in foster homes; the last foster home was with Fannie and Lon Heartt of Winthrop.

Maurice worked as a mechanic for most of his life in Maine and Florida. Maurice lived the last few years of his life at the Country Manor in Coopers Mills, where he had many friends.

He was predeceased by his wife, Ruby; his second wife, Ellen; and his stepdaughter, Ethel Baker of Jefferson.

He is survived by his stepchildren, Forest Carver of Tacoma, Wash., Lucille Carver of Augusta and David Carver of Beacon Falls, Conn.; 16 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and 17 great-great-grandchildren.

A celebration of Maurice’s life will be held Saturday, Jan. 23 at 1 p.m. at the Hall Funeral Home, 949 Main St. in Waldoboro.
