A 19-year-old man died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound Sunday night, an incident that led to a flurry of calls from residents of Brewster Street.

The Rockland Police Department received eight to nine calls from neighbors of the Brewster Street residence about multiple gunshots. Rockland police as well as deputies from the Knox County Sheriff’s Office responded.

Details were sketchy with the investigating officer off Monday due to the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.

But Sgt. Donald Finnegan said the death of the 19-year-old, who is from St. George, appeared to be self-inflicted. He said questions on the number of shots and a report that one person may have been hit with broken glass from a shot or shots could be answered by the investigating officer on Tuesday, Jan. 19.
