An arrest or summons does not constitute a finding of guilt. An individual charged with a crime is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty at criminal proceedings.

The Knox County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls from Jan. 3 through Jan. 9.

Jan. 3

Deputy Donald Murray began an investigation of a motor vehicle burglary in Washington. This is still an active investigation.

Deputy Robert Potter responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash in Friendship. Nonreportable damage was sustained.

Deputy Potter responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash in Cushing involving a single vehicle that struck a tree. Reportable damage was sustained. The operator was issued a summons for failing to report by quickest means.

Deputy Potter responded to a report of a domestic incident in Appleton. This was deemed a verbal argument only.

Deputy John Palmer began an investigation of a burglary in Washington. This is still an active investigation.

Deputy Curt Andrick responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash in Appleton involving a single vehicle whose operator lost control due to the snow covered roadway and struck a tree. Reportable damage was sustained.

Deputy Doug Brundrett responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash in Owls Head involving a single vehicle striking a deer. Nonreportable damage was sustained.

Jan. 4

Deputies Brundrett and Sgt. Michael Sprague responded to a report of a domestic incident in South Thomaston. Upon the deputies’ arrival, it was found that the female involved had left the scene. This incident was deemed a verbal argument only but with further investigation, charges may be pending.

Deputy Palmer conducted a radar detail in Hope. No violations were noted.

Deputy Palmer conducted a radar detail in Union. Two warnings were issued for speed.

Deputy Palmer assisted Maine State Police Trooper Jeremiah Wesbrock at the scene of a domestic incident where the male suspect involved fled the scene. The male was later located and arrested for domestic related charges.

Jan. 5

Deputy Matt Elwell responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash in Appleton involving a single vehicle striking a deer. Nonreportable damage was sustained.

Deputies Elwell and Mark Tibbetts responded to the scene of a motor vehicle accident in Rockport to assist with traffic control due to the severity of the accident.

Deputy Elwell responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash in Rockport involving two vehicles, one of which rear-ended the other. Reportable damage was sustained.

Deputies Brundrett and Sgt. Jacob Boyington responded to a report of an assault involving an out-of-control juvenile in South Thomaston. The juvenile was later arrested.

Jan. 6

Deputy Tibbetts responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash in Appleton involving a single vehicle striking a deer. Nonreportable damage was sustained.

Deputy Tibbetts began an investigation of a burglary in Owls Head. This is still an active investigation.

Deputy Tibbetts responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash in St. George. This incident involved a single vehicle whose operator lost control on the snow covered roadways and struck a snowbank. Reportable damage was sustained.

Deputy Murray began an investigation of a theft in Owls Head. This is still an active investigation.

Jan. 7

Deputy Elwell responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash in South Thomaston involving a single vehicle striking a deer. Nonreportable damage was sustained.

Deputy Elwell began an investigation of criminal mischief in Washington. This is still an active investigation.

Jan. 8

Deputy Palmer conducted a radar detail in South Thomaston. No violations were noted.

Deputy Palmer conducted a radar detail in Tenants Harbor. No violations were noted.

Sgt. Boyington responded to a request for a well-being check on an adult male in Union. The subject voluntarily went to Penobscot Bay Medical Center. The person was taken by Union Ambulance.

Deputy Murray arrested Keven Nelson, 32, of Camden on an outstanding warrant.

Deputy Larry Hesseltine began an investigation of harassment on Vinalhaven. The male harasser was contacted and issued a warning.

Jan. 9

Subsequent to a traffic stop in Union, Sgt. Boyington arrested Christopher Cunningham, 25, of Union on a charge of operating under the influence. The driver was taken to the Knox County Jail without incident.

Deputy Palmer responded to a report of an erratic vehicle in Rockport. The vehicle was later located and the operator was issued a warning on his driving habits.

Deputy Palmer responded to a vehicle crash in St. George with reported personal injury. This incident involved a single vehicle whose operator fell asleep at the wheel, causing the vehicle to strike a snowbank. Reportable damage was sustained and the operator was treated by St. George Rescue for complaints of shoulder pain.

Deputy James Moore began an investigation of criminal mischief on North Haven. This is still an active investigation.

Deputies Murray and Sgt. Boyington responded to a report of a domestic incident in St. George. Upon the deputies’ arrival, it was found that the male party involved had left the scene. This was deemed a verbal argument only.

In total this week, the Knox County Sheriff’s Office received 192 calls for service. Those calls not listed above included such things as all-terrain-vehicle problems, alarms, 911 hang-ups, and nuisance, erratic vehicle, and suspicious complaints.
