Fifth-grade students at the Thomaston Grammar School recently raised $76.16 through the sale of their artwork and donated it to charity.

The students in Anne Pavalkis’ class cleaned glass jars from people’s groceries and repainted the jars to make them new pieces of art. They sold the jars at their recent fifth-grade music concert to raise the money.

The money will be used to buy a family in need a farm animal through the nonprofit organization Heifer International. The students decided last week to provide a flock of chicks and a hope basket with bees and tree seedlings for the family.

The students involved were Dayton Poland, Zack Robinson, Chelsea Munro, Emmanuel Tung, Kyle Long, Chris Christian, Wade Reynolds, Zachary Jones, Lauren Hatch and Meredith Mitchell.
