The Maine Parent Federation will offer two one-night workshops for parents at Five Town CSD Adult Education this winter.

The first workshop, Homework Tips for Parents, will be held Thursday, Jan. 28 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The workshop will cover questions such as why teachers assign homework and how to best support a child on homework matters. The workshop will offer information about how to help a child get the most out of the homework experience. The class is for families of children in kindergarten to sixth-grade.

The second workshop is Beyond the ABC’s and 123’s – A Parent’s Guide to the Transition into Kindergarten on Thursday, Feb. 25 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Sending a child off to his or her first day of school is a major milestone for parents. The transition is full of anxiety, pride and uncertainty for the parents and the child. The workshop is designed to provide useful tips on what parents and guardians can do at home to make the journey a successful one. Participating families will receive a free picture book about going to kindergarten to read to their child before school.

The Maine Parent Federation is a statewide non-profit organization that provides information, advocacy, education, and training to parents and professionals to benefit all children. There is no charge for the classes but registration is required at 236-7800, option 5 or fivetowns.maineadulted.org.
