Basketball has been being played at a feverish pace of late in the Busline League Division I Small School Division, with a handful of teams in action on the hardwood.

At Searsport Tuesday, the visiting Dragons earned a 57-30 victory over the host Vikings. St. George led 9-3, 22-12 and 39-22 at the quarter breaks.

John Ferguson led all scorers with 24 points and 15 rebounds, while Corey Robbins added 11 points and four steals and Ben Caron 10 points and 17 rebounds. Also scoring for the Dragons were Zach Elwell (6 points, 2 steals), Douglas Anderson (4 points, 4 rebounds) and Jack Crockett (2 points, 3 steals).

Leading the Vikings were Jake Powell (14 points, 6 rebounds), Will Hutchinson (6 points, 9 rebounds), Connor Fraser (6 points, 5 rebounds), Bartley Santos (3 points, 3 rebounds) and Kevin Kenniston (point, 2 steals).

At Great Salt Bay Monday, the host Cougars of Damariscotta pulled away from the Dragons in the second half en route to a 51-38 win. St. George led 8-7 after the first quarter, while Great Salt Bay took a 19-16 edge at halftime and a 40-26 advantage after three quarters.

Scoring for the Dragons were Caron (10 points, 14 rebounds), Ferguson (9 points, 11 rebounds), Robbins, (9 points, 2 rebounds), Ellery Montgomery (6 points, 2 rebounds) and Zach Crockett (4 points, steal).

A.J. Oliver led the Cougars with 22 points, while Spencer Alden and Tyler Ward each had 10-point efforts, Tyler Peters eight and Derek Woodbury one.

St. George shot 30 percent from the foul line and 23 percent from the floor, while Great Salt Bay shot 60 percent from the charity stripe and 27 percent from the field.

At Woolwich Jan. 7, St. George dropped a 73-37 decision to the host Wildcats. Woolwich led 16-8, 34-17 and 47-26 at the quarter breaks.

Robbins and Ferguson each netted 10 points for the Dragons, with Ferguson pulling down 18 rebounds and Robbins contributing three assists. Also scoring for St. George were Caron (5 points, 5 rebounds), Anderson (4 points, 3 rebounds), Montgomery (4 points, 5 rebonds), Zach Crockett (2 points, 3 steals), Elwell (point) and Sam Crockett (point).

Woolwich was led by Zach Holbrook with 22 points, while Justin MacNeil added 18; Jacob Freeman, eight; and Nate Geofrion, six.

St. George shot 9-of-31 (29 percent) from the free-throw line, while Woolwich was 11-of-36 (30 percent).


At Searsport Tuesday, the host Vikings earned a 36-31 victory over visiting St. George. Searsport led 14-8, 15-11 and 24-16 at the quarter breaks.

Briana Grant poured in 16 points to lead the Vikings, while Alice Brooks added 15, Kelli Ginns three and Jaci Harriman two.

Paige Tyler and Bailee Cox led the Dragons with eight points apiece, while Lily Vachon added seven; Alexis Davis, four; and Madison Haskell and Megan Beal, both two.

At Great Salt Bay Monday, the Dragons defeated the host Cougars 45-32. The game was knotted 10-10 after the first quarter, while St. George took a 19-14 lead at halftime and a 29-22 edge after three quarters.

Cox led the Dragons with 11 points, while Beal added nine; Haskell, Davis and Tyler, all six; Vachon, five; and Sierra Jameson, two.

For GSB, Danielle Pierce and Jennifer Genthner each netted 10 points, while Megan Krah added six and Camilee Lazzari, Amelia Martin and Shayna Bortoletta, all two.
