The Ragged Mountain Recreation Area Foundation and the Camden Snow Bowl will host an event to kick off the community phase of their Redevelopment Capital Campaign. The Snow Ball will be held at the Rockport Opera House on Saturday, Jan. 30.

The event is an opportunity to learn more about the redevelopment project and get a peek at the future Ragged Mountain Recreation Area while dancing to the music of Maine’s own ’80s band, The Awesome. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. for hors d’oeuvres, desserts and a cash bar, and the music and dancing will begin at 7:30 p.m. Tickets must be purchased in advance and are available at HAV II in Camden, Bikesenjava in Rockland and Wild Rufus Records in Belfast. Tickets cost $35, and all proceeds will benefit the Ragged Mountain Recreation Area redevelopment.

Beginning in 2007, the Ragged Mountain Recreation Area Foundation, in partnership with community groups, has been exploring ways to ensure the economic sustainability for the regional asset. They concluded that building a new ski lodge, improving ski operations, and expanding its four-season programs will significantly enhance recreational, event and educational usage for the entire Midcoast region and beyond.

“The Mountain of Possibilities capital campaign has committed to raising $6.5 million ($4.5 million in private funds and $2 million in municipal funds) to finance a comprehensive project that will dramatically improve the facility, increase usage and build long-term financial strength,” said RMRAF President Bob Gordon in a news release.
