Basketball action in the Busline League Division I Small School Division kicked off earlier this week and thus far it has been a successful start for the St. George boys and girls.

The Dragon girls are out to a 2-0 start with wins over Woolwich and Bristol, while the Dragon boys are 1-1, including a victory over Bristol to start the campaign.

The Division II Small School Division wrapped up prior to the recent holiday break, with the Hope boys and Lincolnville girls collecting league championships.

Teams in the Division I Small School Division include St. George, Searsport, Woolwich, Bristol, Great Salt Bay of Damariscotta and Thomaston.

At Woolwich Thursday, the visiting St. George Dragons pulled out a 32-26 win over the Wildcats. The game was knotted 8-8 after the first quarter, while the Dragons took a 20-18 halftime edge and a 28-24 edge after three quarters.

Bailee Cox tallied 14 points for St. George, while Megan Beal added six and Madison Haskell, Alexis Davis and Paige Tyler each chipped in four.

Kate Dube and Emma Harrington each had eight points for Woolwich.


At St. George Tuesday, the host Dragons defeated visiting Bristol 46-39. St. George led 16-10, 22-20 and 38-30 at the quarter breaks.

Ben Caron had 15 points and eight steals, while John Ferguson also added 11 points along with 21 rebounds for the hosts. Also cracking the scoring column for St. George were Ellery Montgomery (6 points), Corey Robbins (4 points, 6 assists), Zach Elwell (4 points, 6 steals), Douglas Anderson (2 points, 3 rebounds), Sam Crockett (2 points, 3 steals) and Jack Crockett (2 points, rebound).

S. Matel led the Blue Devils with 19 points, while M. Cummings added 10; A. Dodge and G. Anderson, both three; and T. Cheney and L. Bickford, both two.

The Dragons shot 50 percent from the free-throw line, while the Blue Devils finished at 60 percent.
