Elizabeth M. “Betty” Dailey, formerly of Amityville, N.Y., died Jan. 6, 2010, following a period of declining health at Windward Gardens in Camden.

Born May 7, 1922, in Copiague, N.Y., she was the daughter of Thomas and Marie Schmitz Henry. Betty was educated in Lindenhurst schools, and was a 1939 graduate of Lindenhurst High School.

In 1943 she married A. Howard Dailey. Betty and Howard settled in Amityville, N.Y., where they raised their two sons. Betty worked for 25 years in the Amityville school district, first in the Mole Building followed by work at Amityville Junior High and the district offices. After the death of her husband in 1971, Betty eventually relocated to Rockport in 1987.

Betty enjoyed a wide variety of hobbies and activities. She enjoyed painting, gardening, knitting, and hosting family and holiday dinners. She also loved her travels to Scotland. Betty took special delight in her four grandchildren and great-granddaughter, Lila. She is remembered as a kindhearted, generous and thoughtful mother, grandmother and friend.

She was predeceased by her husband, A. Howard Dailey in 1971 and her sister, Jean in 1980.

Betty is survived by her sons, Tom Dailey and his wife, Debbie, of Ottawa, Kan., and Steven Dailey and his wife, Liz, of Rockport; four grandchildren, Andrew Dailey and his wife, Nell, of Warren, Erin Dailey and Carlos Soriano of Uvalde, Texas, Sarah Dailey of Bath and Megan Dailey of Thomaston; her great-granddaughter, Lila Dailey of Warren; and a soon to be born great-granddaughter, Anndee Lynn Soriano of Uvalde, Texas.

At Betty’s request, no services are planned at this time. Spring interment will be at Amityville Cemetery in Amityville, N.Y.
