This month marks the beginning of the sixth year of Novel Jazz Septet concerts at the downtown Skidompha Public Library. The next evening of live jazz will be Thursday, Jan. 21 from 7 to 9:30 p.m.

Skidompha’s Novel Jazz evenings began with the observation that lovers of books often are lovers of jazz. Moreover, the superb acoustics of Skidompha’s atrium, plus its in-the-round seating, make it a great place to see and hear the performance, all in a relaxed, informal atmosphere.

Performing will be Barney Balch on trombone, Mike Mitchell on trumpet, Mickey Felder on piano, Herb Maine on acoustic bass and Waldo County’s Dave Clarke of Belfast on guitar and Bruce Boege of Northport on saxophone.

Special guest Bill Friederich will be performing on drums. Friederich is an accomplished percussionist who has played with U.S. Army bands in Colorado and Europe and now teaches percussion in Maine. He works and records with the pianist Paul Sullivan of Paul Winter Consort fame.

Admission is $10, $5 for those age 12 through 18 and free for younger children. For more information, call 563-5513.

The library is located on Main Street/Business Route 1 If there is any question about weather, call the library at 563-5513 during business hours.  The library’s policy is that if AOS #93 (formerly Union 74) schools are open, the library is open.
