Walter “Sonny” Willey IV of Spruce Head is the winner for this year’s raffle for the lobster trap tree. Willey won 100 traps used to build the lobster trap tree in Rockland.

Proceeds from the raffle go to Rockland Main Street Inc., a partnership of residents, businesses and local government that enhances and protects the unique sense of place and economic vitality of downtown Rockland.

In late November, a team of about 30 community volunteers gathered to construct Rockland’s lobster trap tree at Mildred Merrill Park. Building the holiday tree were volunteers from the business community, Atlantic Challenge and the U.S. Coast Guard, and inmate volunteers from the Bolduc Correctional Facility in Warren. The tree was built using 200 traps from Brooks Trap Mill in Thomaston.
