The Monday Night Blues series re-starts in earnest Jan. 18 with the Zack Pomerleau Blues Band at Time Out Pub, 275 Main St. The young band from Lewiston will play from 7 to 10 p.m.

Later this month, the Zack Pomerleau Blues Band is headed to Tennessee to represent Maine in the International Blues Challenge, having won the Road to Memphis competition’s band category. Admission is $5, which will benefit the band’s trip.

Formed in 2008 by teenagers Zack Pomerleau and Sam Berce, the band features Berce’s slide guitar playing, reminiscent of Derek Trucks and Duane Allman, and Pomerleau’s harp playing and front-man vocals. Berce’s father, John Berce, sits in on bass. The band plays an eclectic mix of rock and blues.

Upcoming in the Monday Night series are: Jan. 25, Mr. Nick & Dirty Tricks, $10; Feb. 1, Matt Stubbs and Sax Gordon, $10; and Feb. 8, Lil Dave Thompson, $10. For more information, send e-mail to series producer Paul Benjamin at bluesman@midcoast.com.
