Penobscot Bay Medical Center in Rockport welcomed its first baby born in the new year Jan. 2.

Aubrey Danielle Gaw, daughter of Nicole and Jeff Gaw of Tenants Harbor, was the first baby born at PBMC in 2010. Aubrey, who weighed 6 pounds, 9 ounces and was 19.5 inches long, arrived during the weekend snowstorm on Jan. 2 at 10:02 a.m. Both sets of Aubrey’s grandparents were at the hospital to greet her. Jeff’s parents, Wallace and Elaine Rowe, were there from Michigan. Nicole’s parents, Bob and Michele Sias, also of Michigan, drove 1,110 miles in the snow to make it to the hospital to meet their second grandchild and first granddaughter.

Traditionally the parents of the first baby born at PBMC after the new year receive a gift basket. This year the basket was larger than ever, according to a press release from the hospital. It included toys, clothing, a gift certificate for house cleaning from Kno-Wal-Lin’s Household Helpers division, and cash and other gift certificates.

Donors included a mom who recently gave birth at PBMC; Lynn Tauss, a nurse at PBMC; Margaret Carpenter, PBMC volunteer; other PBMC volunteers; Fresh Off the Farm in Rockport; the PBMC Dietary Department; Sue Martin of PBMC; Annette Schmiz, a PBMC volunteer; Kno-Wal-Lin Household Helpers; Donna Dancer, a nurse at PBMC; Jane Enman of Pen Bay Healthcare Human Resources; Dr. Thomas O’Connor; nurse Annette Smith; and Linda Starbird of Pen Bay Women’s Health.
