A 38-year-old Warren man was arrested Monday night after police said he assaulted someone, causing the person to flee the house.

Joseph Weymouth was arrested by Maine State Police, assisted by the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, at his home on Main Street in Warren, according to Maine State Police Troop D Commander Lt. Gerard Madden.

Weymouth was taken to the Knox County Jail in Rockland on charges of domestic violence assault, criminal mischief and obstructing the report of a crime. Police said the suspect broke a cell phone to prevent the crime from being reported.

The victim fled the home and went to another residence to call police. The incident occurred after 9 p.m.

Maine State Trooper Jeremiah Wesbrock responded as did Trooper Shawn Porter and his canine Tex because Weymouth fled the scene on foot. Weymouth later returned to the house and was arrested.

The victim was taken to Penobscot Bay Medical Center in Rockport to be treated for a concussion and a bruised lip.
