Aqua Maine reported 7.56 inches of precipitation during December at the Mirror Lake Weather Station. In 2009, the total precipitation was 72.36 inches.

Last year, 6.02 inches of precipitation fell in December. The December average is 4.54 inches. The total precipitation in 2008 was 65.85 inches. The total precipitation for an average year is 47.85 inches.

December snowfall in 2009 totaled 7 inches, compared to 21.75 inches in 2008.

To those with a recollection of the summer, it should come as no surprise that 2009 comes in as the third wettest year recorded at this station, surpassed only by 2005 (77.47 inches) when 17.49 inches fell in October and 1983 (76.02 inches) when 16.5 inches fell in November. Only January and September had precipitation levels less than average.

The lowest precipitation for December from Aqua Maine’s records was in 2000 when 1.05 inches was recorded. The highest was in 1977 when 9.38 inches was recorded.

The warmest day of the month was Dec. 27 when the mercury hit 46 degrees. The coldest day was Dec. 17 when the maximum temperature was 14 degrees.

Mirror Lake is full. There were 82,500,000 gallons of water delivered to the distribution system this month. During the month of December, no water was pumped from Grassy Pond to Mirror Lake.
