Belfast poets Karin Spitfire and Barbara Maria will read from their own work before discussing writing in general on “Writers Forum,” a monthly feature on Community Radio Station WERU, Thursday, Jan. 14 at 10 a.m.

Spitfire is the author of a full-length book of poetry, “Standing with Trees,” and a chapbook, “Wild Caught.” She is a past Poet Laureate of Belfast and has published poems in anthologies and journals, as well as online. Most recently, Spitfire’s poem “What is to Be Offered,” published by The Kerf, was nominated for the prestigious Pushcart Award.

Maria is the author of two books of poetry, “Crossing Time” and “Palace Boulevard.”  She also has produced, with Jeff Densmore, a CD of poems and music called “108 Names – Poems to the Divine.” Maria leads workshops and groups for both experienced and beginning writers, as well as a writing and meditation series. Most recently she has been combining poetry with visual art to bring the spoken work into a three-dimensional setting.

“Writers Forum” features Maine authors and summer visitors to Maine, both published and unpublished, reading their own compositions. The hour-long program airs the second Thursday monthly on Community Radio WERU, broadcast at 89.9 FM in the Midcoast and 102.9 FM in Bangor with a Web stream at weru.org. Past programs also are archived online.

Writers interested in appearing on the program should contact the station via the Web site or write to Writers Forum, WERU, 1186 Acadia Highway, East Orland, ME 04431.
