Dorothy “Dot” Richards Jones, 97, died Dec. 27, 2009, at home following a period of declining health. Born in Rockland on Nov. 21, 1912, she was the daughter of Frank and Hattie Foss Richards. Dot moved to Thomaston as a child, where she attended local schools.

On April 16, 1942, she married Otis H. Burridge of Camden. Dot accompanied him to Limestone, where they worked on the construction of the air base there for a while before returning to Thomaston.

On Nov. 18, 1950, Dot married Myron C. Jones of Thomaston and resided in the family home on Ludwig Street for most of her life.

Dot worked many years for the Black and Gay Canning Factory in Thomaston and was proud of her contribution to the war effort as noted in the commendation she received from the war department. She later opened the Dee-Cee Snack Bar at Walker’s Corner in Thomaston. She and her husband made many nautical-themed items that were sold at the store. Dot was very talented and continued with her crafts up until her illness, and she enjoyed the pleasure her gifts and talents gave others.

Dot was an avid Red Sox and Celtics fan throughout her life and reveled in their recent championships. Many hours were spent watching the games and discussing the teams. Dot was a shy, unassuming woman who was very caring and generous to all who loved and knew her. She enjoyed many wonderful friends during her life and will be greatly missed.

She was predeceased by her parents; her husband; her brothers, Woodbury, Harvey and Frank Richards; and her sisters, Larissa Richards, Gail Scholtz and Mary Bell.

She is survived by her sister, Marjorie Mills of Rockland; her brother-in-law, the Rev. Robert Bell of Rockport; her niece, Abbie Koshak and family of Florida; her nephews, John Bell, Robert Bell and family, all of New Hampshire, and Douglas Mills and family of Rockland; and many other nieces, nephews and cousins. Dot will be especially missed by her cousins and caregivers, Joanne Richards, Sandra Caron and Michelle Grant, all of Thomaston.

Visiting hours will be held Tuesday, Jan. 5 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock St. in Rockland, where a celebration of her life will be held Wednesday, Jan. 6 at 2 p.m. The Rev. Robert Bell will officiate. A reception will follow at 104 Limerock.
