Pauline A. (Thompson) Saunders, 88, of Westerly, R.I., died Dec. 15, 2009, at the Westerly Hospital. She was the wife of the late Robert L. Saunders.

Born in St. George, she was a daughter of the late Freland and Christie (Poland) Thompson.

A long time and active member of the Central Baptist Church, she performed a great deal of volunteer work for the local Meals on Wheels program and the Warm Shelter. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother who loved spending time with her family and extended family.

She was predeceased by two daughters, Pamela Lastes and Leonesse Meridith.

She leaves two sons and daughters-in-law, Bradford Saunders and his wife, Karen of Harleysville, Pa., and Lindsay Saunders and his wife, Rita of Westerly, R.I.; a daughter and son-in-law, Rosemarie Jones and her husband, Edward of Plantsville, Conn.; a brother and sister-in-law, Robert Thompson and his wife, Jeanette of Winthrop; her twin sister, Josephine Harper of Lexington, Mass.; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Calling hours will be held Friday, Dec. 18 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly, R.I. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service, which will be held Saturday, Dec. 19 at noon at the Central Baptist Church, 16 Elm St., Westerly, R.I. Burial will be private.
