Nancy Cross Worthing, 76, died Dec. 9, 2009, surrounded by her loving family at her home.

Born in Augusta, May 30, 1933, she was the daughter of former Maine Governor Burton M. Cross and Olean Moulton Cross. In her youth she was active in Rainbow Girls.

Nancy attended the University of Maine at Orono and graduated from the Chamberlain School in Boston.

Nancy’s calling was as a wife and mother, however she also worked as a floral designer. She was employed at various times by Cross Flower and Butler Twins in Farmingdale, as well as Andrus Flower and Gift and Crabapples in Rockland.

Active in her community, Nancy attended the Broad Cove Community Church and served as election warden in Cushing.

Nancy’s family remembers her as a loving mother who had a giving soul. They said her strength was amazing.

She was predeceased by her parents and two sisters, Burtina Lee Cross and Barbara Betty Butler.

Nancy is survived by her husband of 52 years, Robert E. Worthing of Cushing; her daughters, Cheryl Anne Worthing of Warren, SueEllen Worthing of Portland and Cynthia Worthing Bickford and her husband, Brian as well as their children, Meghan and Kyle, all of Cumberland.

A celebration of Nancy’s life will be held Friday, Dec. 18 at 2 p.m. at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock St. in Rockland.
