Georgia Blanche Vrooman, 73, of Nobleboro died Dec. 8, 2009, at Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta.

Born Nov. 24, 1936, in Washington, she was the daughter of Hazelton and Evelyn (Wellman) Simmons.

Georgia was a very social and independent woman who loved going out, and being with family and friends. She collected many different items and enjoyed doing crafts of all kinds. She loved sports and especially enjoyed watching her beloved Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots.

She was predeceased by her husband, William Vrooman in 1999; as well as her daughter, Annette Dahl in 2003.

She is survived by a daughter, Carol Cowan and her husband, Bob Jones of Queen Creek, Ariz.; a son, Greg Vrooman and his fiancé, Angela Harrison of Nobleboro; a sister, Annette Rogers and her husband, Fran Rogers of Nobleboro; and six grandchildren. She was looking forward to the birth of her first great-grandchild in January.

A time of visitation will be held Monday, Dec. 14 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Strong-Hancock Funeral Home, 612 Main St. in Damariscotta. A service will be held Tuesday, Dec. 15 at noon, also at the funeral home. She will be laid to rest with her husband at the Dunbar Cemetery in Nobleboro.
