John Andrew “Andy” Gass, 71, died Dec. 8, 2009, in Peabody, Mass., due to complications from Guillain Barré syndrome.

He was born Dec. 29, 1937, in Brewer, the son of John A. and Mildred Vena (Canty) Gass.

Andy was employed as general manager at Pilot’s Grill in Bangor for many years, retiring to the coast where he was happy and content. All that knew Andy will remember his larger than life personality and sense of humor. He will be remembered as a very loving, devoted, caring man to his family.

Surviving are his loving wife, Keneen K. Gass of Rockland; two daughters, Vicki (Gass) Mercier and her partner, Tom Blake of Westbrook and Karen Tardiff and her husband, Thom of Brewer; two grandchildren, Erica and Garrett Mercier; three sisters, Velma Stewart and her husband, Donnie of Stillwater, Sally Zoidis and her husband, Bill of Bangor and Kathy Arnold and her husband, Eddie of Holden. He will also be missed by his several nieces and nephews and his Pomeranian, Kennedy.
