Youth mountain biking program begins July 1
Camden — Beginning Tuesday, July 1, Mid Coast Chapter of the New England Mountain Bike Association will start its youth summer mountain biking program at the Camden Snow Bowl.
The program will run Tuesday nights, beginning at 6 p.m. through Aug. 12.
The program is targeted for children, ages 5-14, who can ride bikes. The program is non-competitive and about building a love for riding bikes in nature’s social network and building friendships along the way. The program will focus on bike handling, safety, trail riding, most importantly having fun.
With the redevelopment under way at the Camden Snow Bowl, the group will meet at the parking area next to the tennis courts at the Ragged Mountain Recreation Area. From the tennis court parking lot, participants will ride to the Rollins Road trail head. Local volunteers have been busy since the summer of 2013 building gentler and more beginner friendly terrain which will be conducive to building confidence with new riders.
A key to the success of this program is parental involvement. If parents have a mountain bike, join in. In terms of cost, participants are asked to become a member of the Mid Coast Chapter of the New England Mountain Bike Association.
