Young Stars of Maine perform in Rockport

Rockport — Bay Chamber invites the community to experience the talent of this year’s Young Stars of Maine Prizewinners in a free concert Sunday, April 30, at 4 p.m. at the Rockport Opera House, 6 Central St.

For more than 50 years, Bay Chamber Concerts and Music School has had an annual prize program to recognize, encourage and reward young Maine music students who are serious in their study and performance of music. Prize awards are $1,000, in seven categories, for individuals and ensembles age 11 to 25.

The 2017 Young Stars of Maine Prizewinners are as follows: Ezra Rachlin Prize for Excellence, Christopher Garrepy, countertenor; Eleanor Erdman and Diane Nixon Vocal Excellence Prize, Rachel Shukan, soprano; A. H. Chatfield, Jr. Piano Prize, Soren Nyhus, piano; Summer Strings Prize, Colin Aponte, violin; Elsie Bixler Junior Prize, Morgan Flanigan, piano; and the Jean and Harvey Picker Senior Prize, Kiersten Curtis, soprano.

Everyone is invited to come celebrate these young talented musicians in a free performance sure to please all audiences.
