Young receives Principal's Award

Waldoboro — Waldoboro's Amanda Young of Warren, a senior at Medomak Valley High School, was recently selected by Principal Harold Wilson to receive the 2014 Principal's Award.

The award, sponsored by the Maine Principals' Association, is given in recognition of a high school senior's academic achievement and citizenship.

Throughout her years at Medomak Valley High School, Young strives to be the very best she can be in all areas. She is always prepared to take on new challenges whether in the classroom, on the sports field, or in student government. She is well respected by her peers and the staff at Medomak. She is truly an amazing young lady with bright future, according to a news release from the school. Following graduation Amanda will be attending Colby College majoring in biology.

Young, Principal Wilson, and other award winners and their principals attended an Honors Luncheon at the Spectacular Event Center in Bangor April 5. U.S. Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine was the keynote speaker for the event.

The Honors Luncheon recognizes these outstanding students with the presentation of an individual plaque, pin, and the awarding of ten $1,000 scholarships. The Principal's Award is presented in more than 100 Maine public and private high schools by member principals of the MPA, the professional association which represents Maine's school administrators.
