Working watermen gather Oct. 6
Rockland — The public is invited to join host Gordon Bok for the third presentation of Working on the Water, a gathering of fishermen and mariners. The event will take place Saturday, Oct. 6 at 1 p.m. at the Sail, Power and Steam Museum at Sharp's Point South, 75 Mechanic St.
Men and women who work or have worked on the water will share their experiences through original songs, stories, and poetry. Patterned after the highly successful West Coast Fisherpoet’s Gathering, this event has been so well received that both Maine Maritime Museum and the Fisherman’s Forum have expressed interest in hosting their own similar presentations.
Joining the gathering again will be West Coast balladeer and fisherman Jay Speakman, along with his Fisherpoet colleague Jon Broderick, as well as local storytellers Abe Baggins, Andy Chase, Bill Gargan, Gib Philbrick and poet Selkie O’Mira.
Admission will be $5, free for children younger than 12. For more information, visit gordonbok.com/special.html.
