Winter is back!

Local children rejoice as 'Snow Day' is declared

Rockland — The snow came in quickly Wednesday morning, Feb. 5 in Rockland, beginning to accumulate around 7 a.m., making road conditions slick and dangerous.

The National Weather Service issued a Winter Weather Warning for Knox, Waldo and Lincoln counties the night before, anticipating the snow would continue to 9 p.m.

The winter weather event has resulted in numerous cancellations.

Total snow accumulations are expected to range from 6 to 10 inches. Wind chill values Wednesday night may go as low as 1 below.

Cancellations, closures and postponements include:

Children and educators from the Regional School Unit 13 schools are taking a "Snow Day." Also closed are SAD 40, SAD 28, the Five Town CSD, Ashwood Waldorf, Riley and URock.

Union Town Office is closing at noon.

Rockland Elks Bingo has been canceled.

Jay Foster's program Camden, Lincolnville and the Statue of Liberty at the Lincolnville Community Library has been postponed to Wednesday, Feb. 12, at 7 p.m. The library is closed Feb. 5.

Betz Chiropractic & Wellness in Lincolnville will be closing at noon.

The Waldoboro Public Library is closed.

The Five Town CSD Finance & School Board Meeting that was scheduled for this evening has been cancelled and rescheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 11.

All three locations of Loyal Biscuit Company are closed.

The Knox County Superior Court, Sixth District Court, and the Knox County Administrative Offices are closing at noon.

State offices in Knox, Waldo, Lincoln, York, Cumberland, Sagadahoc, Kennebec, Androscoggin and Oxford counties are closing at noon.

The Chamber Business Café scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 6, has been postponed due to weather. It will be rescheduled for March.

The Waldoboro Town Office and Transfer Station are closing at noon.

The St George Town Office will be closing at 4 p.m.

The offices of Courier Publications will be closing at 3 p.m.
