William W. Smith Jr.
McMinnville, Tenn. — William Walter Smith Jr., 62, of McMinnville, Tenn. died Feb. 7, 2014, at St. Thomas of Rutherford Critical Care Center after an extended illness.
He was predeceased by his son William Walter Smith III (BJ) and a sister Marlene Carole (Harriman) Merando.
He was born in Rockland Feb. 18, 1951, the son of William Walter and Glenice May Smith.
He attended Hope Elementary School and Camden-Rockport High School.
He served our country for 17 years in the U.S. Marines. He worked for the Food Lion Company for 46 years (Shop n Save now Hannaford in Rockland, Maine; Food Lion in Smithville, Tenn. and Cee Bee in McMinnville, Tenn.).
He is survived by his wife Vickie Cherie Smith of McMinnville, Tenn. They would have been married 14 years on Feb. 14, 2014. He was a good husband and a good friend. His church family was extremely important to him. He worshipped at Martin Chapel Outreach in McMinnville, Tenn.
He is survived by four brothers, Howard Smith and his wife Inez of Brooks and their children, Shawn, Scott and Stephen; Bob Smith and his wife Joyce of Rockport; Bruce Harriman and his wife Gene of Belmont and their children, Stacy Ann Roe, Angela, Tammy, April, Glenice and Stephen; and Dale (Don) Harriman and his wife Carleen of Palmyra, a son Christopher and daughters, Tracy and Toni from a previous marriage. He is survived by one sister Sue (Glenice) Lear of Morrill and her son Jacob. Marlene Merando who is predeceased has two children Carole and Matthew.
