What types of receipts should I really save when I have a business trip?
The easy answer to those that wonder this very question is: All. Yes, save all receipts. But, incase you’re new to this thought, here’s a list of things you can typically always use for write-off purposes if you incur these on your trip.
-Travel (to and from airport, to other hotels or other meeting areas, etc.)
-Clothing bought specifically for trip.
-If your cell phone plan incurs any specific fees while away, or a percentage of your overall cell phone bill depending on situation
-Wifi (at hotel or café if also needed)
-Laundry Service if used
-Any meeting supplies for meeting or to prepare for meeting
-Postage fees if you mailed business materials to hotel, or back to your home base, etc.
-Faxing or other ‘Business Office’ fees incurred
-Depending on length of trip, talk to your tax professional about health/beauty services while away… but save the receipt in the meantime!
