Trader Joe's.

Don't you think there are enough national mega-chain restaurants in this area? How great can the desire for pre-cooked, flash-frozen, über-processed, non-nutritious food be here?!? Yeesh.

Yeah, maybe Wendys will be one of them that came, went, and came back again like Pizza Hut, KFC, Dennys unless I'm forgetting one. Kind of a trend in Rockland

Since it's not likely that we'll get Dave's Diner back, how about a Moody's North? Anyone care for a slice of pie?

Ms. Moody I believe you are the winner with your suggestion of the Whole Food Market.  Whole Food Markets sell mostly organic foods and foods that are really healthy foods.  Like a much bigger GOOD TERN store in Rockland.

I am appalled at the apparent desire for more chain restaurants to come to Thomaston.  Local restaurants almost always have better food, better service and better prices.  What more could a hungry soul ask for?  I bemoan Dave’s, serving great meals and a salad bar just feet from where Applebee’s is now. We allready have quite a few good expensive eating places in rockland ,camden etc. now we should have someting everyone could afford like the Olive Garden or its equivalent. Joan

Whole Foods Market like the one in Portland.  We have enough crap in Rockland as it is without another franchise.

wendys or a kfc

Instead ask - what type of restaurant would you SUPPORT  by dining at at least once a week

Posted by: Susan Sinclair | Jan 18, 2014 18:47

Oh for heaven's sake, there are tons of "home town family style" restaurants all over the place, are you kidding me?? We're talking about a shopping center situation, where people are looking for a little "pop" civilization. Go to the Offshore or Helm or Rockport Diner or even the Mariner. Really great food, and I love them...but sometimes a person needs to feel like they're part of the wider United States.

Agree with Chuck and Susan R. - we're missing a good home-town family-style restaurant along the coast. But yes, too, a good steakhouse would be wonderful! In FL they have Golden Corral, which is affordable, with abundant and varied food choices and is a buffet. The ideal combination of both.

Mr. St. Clair I LOVED "DAVE'S restaurant!!  Every time I visited Maine before I moved here I ate at "DAVE'S"   When I finally moved here "DAVE'S" was gone; I was sad.

Roly Poly.  Someone local would need to buy a Franchise.  Wonderful and healthy food.  Check it out - http://www.rolypoly.com/

Mr. Yattaw you have a wonderful idea but I am afraid that is not going to happen because Maine is a "Death Spiral State" according to William Baldwin a staff writer with FORBES.  A "Death Spiral State" in one where there are more people on the take than there are people to support them and the ones supporting them are suffering because of higher taxes, etc.  I don't know how to solve this problem or even if it can be solved but in this area of Maine I think it will probably be hard to attract industry, etc.  I hope I Mr. Baldwin who wrote the article is wrong but I don't believe he is.

Local businesses. Affordable. We have lots of truly wonderful but expensive restaurants. Something for the rest of us, please?

Posted by: Clifton Yattaw, Jr | Jan 18, 2014 07:06

It's a shame that we have become a service country. How about having an industry or a factory that produces a product, and creates real jobs. There's a restaurant on every street corner if your hungry.
