For many people insurance terms like
premium, deductible, and co-pay are
confusing. Yet these very terms are
important in making the choice for
health insurance coverage that is best
for you. When most people hear the
term co-pay they think about the
amount of money they pay at the
pharmacy for their medication; They
don’t understand that they might also
have a co-pay when they go see a
doctor or are admitted to the hospital,
depending on what insurance plan they
have chosen.
Thanks to the increase in questions
from consumers of health insurance
products, materials and education
sessions have been developed to help
people better understand insurance and
to make sense of the different plans
offered. We would like to help you gain
Health Insurance Literacy so we have
scheduled an August seminar at the
CCC. The seminar will be led by Malory
Shaughnessy from Maine Community
Health Options, the consumer directed
health insurance cooperative in Maine.
