WFBC men's basketball playoffs press on

League championships set for March 24

Waldoboro — The Waldoboro First Baptist Church Men's Basketball League's postseason has been moving along at a rapid pace, with the league championship games on the horizon.

The WFBC league, which plays its games in the church gymnasium off Route 1 next to Moody's Diner in Waldoboro, will play its championship games on Monday, March 24, starting at 6:30 p.m.

The Division III finals will be played at 6:30 p.m., while the Division II finals will follow at 7:30 p.m. and the Division I finals at 8:30 p.m.

Following the championship games, a banquet for players will be Tuesday, March 24 at WFBC.

In the Division III semifinals Monday, March 17, No. 4 Tenacious D upset No. 1 Lincoln County News 61-57 in overtime, while No. 2 Insanity beat No. 6 Lanphere 51-43. Thus, the league championship will feature No. 4 Tenacious D and No. 2 Insanity.

In the Division II playoffs Tuesday, March 11, No. 2 Warriors beat No. 7 Free Press 58-45, No. 3 Laurel Wood Floors beat No. 6 Moody's 62-54 and No. 5 Midcoast Masonry beat No. 4 Denman Builders 74-51. Thus, the semifinals will be played later this week and will feature No. 2 Warriors against No. 3 Laurel Wood Floors, along with No. 1 Kay Construction against No. 5 Midcoast Masonry.

In the Division I playoffs Thursday, March 13, No. 2 Wiscasset beat No. 7 YMCA 78-45, while No. 3 Ship City beat No. 6 Belfast and No. 5 Leighton beat No. 4 Stonescape, both by forfeit. Thus, the semifinals will be played later this week and will feature No. 2 Wiscasset against No. 3 Ship City, and No. 1 Scrubs beat No. 5 Leighton.
