Weekend music in the Velvet Lounge
Rockland — The Velvet Lounge series returns to Rock City Cafe, 316 Main St., for live music Friday and Saturday, Nov. 2 and 3 from 5 to 7 p.m. As usual, there is no cover charge; however, tipping the musicians is highly encouraged.
On Friday, Alice Limoges will bring use her acoustic guitar and ukulele to chart new territory, introducing distinctive chords and progressions. With catchy hooks and bridges, her original melodies fuse jazz, bluegrass and folk influences, layering in poetic lyrics that are thoughtfully courageous.
On Saturday, the Velvet Lounge presents Outlook Jazz featuring Mike Whitehead on trumpet and flugelhorn; Xar Adelberg on standup bass; Tom Luther on piano; and Mark Barnette on drums. Celebrating the music of Wayne Shorter, Tom Harrell, Tomasz Stanko, Joe Henderson and others, Outlook also features compositions by band members. In exploring their own deep connection to the pieces and each other, the band strives to bring the audience into a deeper experience of the jazz repertory.
