Weather advisory: mixed-bag night

Feb 20, 2014

Gray — The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for snow for Knox, Lincoln and coastal Waldo counties, in effect from 9 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, through 8 a.m. Friday, Feb. 21. The advisory also includes Sagadahoc County.

This Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of snow, sleet or freezing rain will cause travel difficulties.

Light snow should begin this evening, perhaps starting as a brief period of light rain. During the night, the snow should transition to a mixture of sleet and freezing rain; and, eventually, to plain rain by early Friday morning.

Snow may accumulate up to 1 inch, along with a trace of ice. Travelers may expect slippery roads and other surfaces, especially those that are untreated. Winds will be out of the southeast at 5 to 10 mph. Temperatures will be in the lower 30s.
