Pizza supper hosts Steel Drum Band

Prescott Memorial School Parent Teacher Group invites everyone to the Pizza Supper and Dessert Auction Saturday, March 15, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at the school gym. Special guests will be the Medomak Steel Drum Band that has wowed local audiences several times in the past. The cost is $5 for adults and $2.50 for children or $15 for a family. Money raised from this public supper will go to this year’s Children’s Stage Adventures presentation. This promises to be a fun-filled evening of great food, crafts for kids, face painting, the auction of delicious desserts and music by the Medomak Steel Drum Band.

Farmers market at Grange

This Saturday, March 15, the Washington Grange Farmers Market will be open at the Grange Hall, 33 Old Union Road. Locally produced dairy products including cheeses and yogurt along with rich Jersey milk baked goods, baked-this-morning pastries, and other good food and specialty items will be available from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Next month, the farmers market go back to its summer schedule — open every Saturday morning. We’ll have more on this in a couple of weeks.

Nine days to municipal elections

Washington’s elections for the select board and school board will be Friday, March 21 and voting for town committees and numerous budget and management items will be up for discussion and voting Saturday, March 22 at town meeting. Town meeting starts at 10 a.m. at Prescott school gym. Along with doing the business of the town, low cost refreshments are available, and informational materials displayed. Town meetings, where the residents of a community have a direct say in their governance, are first row seats in the arena of democracy. Be there. It’s the right thing to do.

School enrollment begins

Children who will be 5 years old on or before Oct. 15, 2014, are eligible to enroll in public school kindergarten for the school year that starts this coming September (2014-2015). Parents who want to start the enrollment process are encouraged to contact Prescott Memorial School office at 845-2424.

Tenth annual Student Art Exhibit

The walls of Gibbs Library are absolutely alive with colorful, imaginative drawings and paintings from Prescott Memorial School students in this Tenth annual Student Art Exhibit which opens today. The show is the culmination of the school’s art class productions ever since fall. The whole school participates in the project headed up by art teacher Lisa Shepherd. The Student Art Exhibit runs from March 13 through the month of April. A reception for the artists, their families and friends, will be held tonight, March 13, at 6:30 p.m., at the library.

Hometown writer speaks at WHS

Washington native, Josh Christie, will be guest speaker at the Historical Society’s meeting Tuesday, March 18, at Gibbs Library. Christie will share stories from his recent book "Maine Beer: Brewing in Vacationland" and talk about how he came to write it. The event is free and open to the public.
