Warren — The Warren Board of Selectmen voted to hire Glenn Aho as interim town manager in a regularly scheduled meeting Oct. 31.

Aho served as Auburn's city manager for three years and as town manager in Lincoln for nearly 13 years.

"I've really enjoyed being here, I've enjoyed working with the people," said Grant Watmough, Warren's town manager for the past 17 years. "I'm looking forward to retirement."

Watmough's departure was initially scheduled for Nov. 26, but he will be leaving the post Friday, Nov. 9 in order to coincide with Aho's hiring. The Board of Selectmen have offered to pay Watmough's salary through Nov. 26 due to the change of date.

Chairman Doug Pope said that Aho's first day will be Tuesday, Nov. 13.

According to Pope, the Board of Selectmen met with a representative from Maine Municipal Association on Nov. 7 in order to begin the process of searching for a permanent town manager.

Pope said that advertising copy is currently under review by the Board of Selectmen, and a schedule has been laid out for further steps through December 2012.

"It's a good first step," said Pope of the meeting with MMA.
