Hope — Cub Scouts from Bristol Pack 250 visited the Hope Elephants on Feb. 3. Four boys from the Waldoboro Bear Den, along with their families, had a chance to see the elephants, learn more about them, and ask questions.

The Asian elephants, Rosie and Opal, are retired and injured circus animals, who have been in Maine for about three months now. They have a nice warm barn, toys, plenty of food, and caretakers who make sure they get plenty of exercise and are helping rehabilitate their injuries. The scouts brought apples and carrots as treats.

This was the final task the boys needed to complete in order to earn their Bear rank badges. Third-graders Elliot Rich, Matthew Robbins, Daniel Vannah and Thane Waddell will continue their study of animals as well as the environment so they can earn their World Conservation Award. All four boys attend Miller School in Waldoboro.
