Waldo County, Swan Lake Grocery atop MBRL baseball standings
Baseball games in the Midcoast Babe Ruth Baseball League are being played at a fever pitch, with the end of the regular season rapidly approaching.
The last day of the regular season is Wednesday, July 2, while the postseason is slated to begin Monday, July 7. The championship game will be played Wednesday, July 16 at Medomak Valley High School in Waldoboro.
Results from June 24 games included: Wiscasset Merchants 3, Rockland Café 1; Waldo County 8, Waldoboro 0; and Swan Lake Grocery 14, Damariscotta Lions 6.
The league standings as of June 24 were: Swan Lake Grocery 7-1, Waldo County 6-1, Rockland Café 6-2, Rockport 4-3, Wiscasset Merchants 3-3, Waldoboro 3-5, Damariscotta Lions 3-6, Union Farm Equipment 3-6 and Camden 0-7.

Waldo County 8, Waldoboro 0
At Waldoboro June 24, the visitors pounced on the hosts early and surged to a shutout win. Waldo County scored two runs in the first and second innings, one in the third and three in the seventh.
Leading the Waldo County offense were Brandon Smith (triple, double, 2 RBIs, 2 runs, stolen base), Emmett Shell (double, single, RBI, 3 runs, 2 stolen bases), Barrett Grant (double, RBI, run), Max Thomas (double, 2 RBIs), Kyle Moore (single, stolen base), Joey Danna (single, run, stolen base), Colby Furrow (run, stolen base), Mitchell Philbrook (stolen base) and Evan Thomas (stolen base).
For Waldoboro, Adam Eutsler (double), Ollie Brown (single), Brent Stewart (single) and Isaac Eutsler (single, 2 stolen bases) paced the offense.
Moore pitched four innings for Waldo County, allowing two hits and three walks; while Danna worked three innings, allowing two hits and one walk, with four strikeouts.
Owen Gilbert pitched into the seventh inning, allowing eight hits and four walks, with four strikeouts for the hosts. Kevin White also pitched in relief and walked two batters.
Wiscasset Merchants 3, Rockland Café 1
At Wiscasset June 24, the visitors scored first, but the hosts scored three unanswered and picked up their third win. Rockland Café scored one in the first, while Wiscasset Merchants scored two in the first and another in the third.
Coby Dorr pitched 5 1/3 innings for Rockland Café, allowing two hits, six walks and two hit batters, with seven strikeouts. Anthony Moore struck out one batter in relief.
Tyler Bailey went the distance for Wiscasset Merchants, allowing six hits and one walk, with 13 strikeouts.
Leading the visitors at the plate were Titus Kaewthong (double, single) and Mitchell Delfrate (single).
